Kelly, Ellsworth

*1923 Newburgh, New York (USA) – †2015 Spencertown (USA)

If you look through the catalog raisonné of prints by the American artist, it quickly becomes clear that Kelly Ellsworth cannot be associated with just one of the common styles, such as Hard Edge, Concrete Art, or Geometric Abstraction. Too versatile or better: too multilayered was his fine perception of things and events around him, as that he would have wanted to subordinate the painterly implementation of an art category, be it ever so much self-chosen.
