| | Details:"Creation" This lithograph eradiates effortlessness, harmony and joy. Its colouring also conveys peace of mind and a feeling of security. Everything in this work is in motion: angels, birds, terrestrial animals, fish, and Adam and Eve. It seems as if the creatures were dancing a jig around the white circular centre. Everything is illuminated and receives light from this bright area. It was a matter of course for the Jewish artist Marc Chagall to not depict God as God is and will always be unsearchable. He is the light and this is how Chagall depicted him. The iconography deems the circular and the globular shape to be the perfect surface and body. It is therefore an appropriate symbol for insinuating God. The first human couple is still naked which implies their unsuspecting nature and innocence. Adam serves himself with fruit from the Garden of Eden, his gaze directed at the creature he deemed to be an appropriate sexual partner. This is how Chagall created a gorgeous illustration of the history of creation with his splendid art.
