Details:

"Vision de Paris" (Vision of Paris)

"For my art, I needed Paris as necessary as a tree does need water", Chagall used to say when he was asked about the reasons for the departure from his native Russia. He seemed to suffocate by the silence, sadness and lack of color, which his hometown and family environment must have radiated at that time. Paris became Chagall's second home, it represented for him the longed-for freedom and versatility. Not surprising, then, that Chagall's Paris pictures always included a firework of colors.

The colorful vitality of this vibrant city must have impressed him greatly, as reflected also in this image, underlined by the remarkable choice of colors - who else except Chagall would probably get the idea, to combine a soft pink with bright orange? With its typical symbolism this print is certainly among the most magnificent and most colorful lithographic works by the artist.
