Mavignier, Almir

*1925 Rio de Janeiro (BRA) – † 2018 Hamburg (GER)

(originally Almir da Silva Mavignier). The Brazilian artist Almir Mavignier is one of the most important contemporary artists from South America. Within the context of concrete art, his optical art pictures ("matrix dots", monochrome constructions) were well-received world-wide. His prints are often of a monumental size. The point is also to provide the necessary space for the optical phenomena he creates. He was one of the first people to produce silk-screen prints on foil carrier, which also made the works everlasting. Mavignier lived for many years in Hamburg, Germany, where he passed away in 2018.
