Nedelec, Michèle

*1931 Angers (FR)

French painter and printmaker Michèle Nedelec was born in the French region of Brittany in 1931. At the age of 29, she began learning traditional printing techniques at the Friedlaender workshop. She would therefore often pay tribute to her teacher, the gifted etcher Johnny Friedlaender, throughout her career. In 1962, her work was first exhibited with other artists. Today, her works can be found all over the world, especially in New York and Tokyo, and of course on the art market in Europe. A highlight in her artistic career was her participation in the IV. Biennale in Paris in 1965.

The Breton artist works mainly color etchings, which are defined by the skillfully used translucency of the color surfaces. The themes of her works are almost always related to nature: Landscapes, flowers, trees, stones and sometimes animals are her favorite subjects. Nedelec's compositions are abstract and often in pastel tones, which gives them a melancholic or even mystical atmosphere.
