Details:

"Paloma et Claude" - 1950

At the time this enchanting lithograph was created, the two children of Picasso and his partner Françoise Gilot were 1 year old (Paloma) and 3 years old (Claude). For his first lithographic work that year, Picasso decided to draw and dab the portraits of the two little ones with diluted lithographic ink on his index finger. Picasso's genius can be seen most clearly in works such as this, painted with sparing means and using only one color. The radiance of the two children's faces is remarkable and, according to contemporary witnesses, the resemblance is said to have been astonishing.

This original lithograph was used as the cover for the second volume of Picasso's lithographic work. Correspondingly few well-preserved copies still exist today, more than seventy years later. We are delighted to be able to offer you an unusually beautiful one here.

Technique: Original lithograph (Mourlot no. 186), served as cover for "Picasso Lithographs II"
This is N O T a mass-produced reprint (photomechanical reproduction such as offset lithographs or giclée prints) but the original lithograph executed by Picasso himself in April 1950, as it is also listed in the catalog raisonné.
