Poliakoff, Serge

*1900 Moscow (RUS) – †1969 Paris (FR)

The Moscow-born artist is considered to be one of the most eminent abstract painters of the Paris School (École de Paris). His meagre graphic oeuvre comprises approximately 120 works, 80 of which are lithographs and 40 etchings. Poliakoff created his first colour lithograph no earlier than 1953 and his last one shortly before his death in 1969. From 1962 on, when Poliakoff became a French citizen, his lithographs were almost exclusively printed by the renowned printing press Erker in the Swiss town of St Gallen.
