Sariano, Jean

*1943 Oran (Algeria), lives in the United States

Jean Sariano was born on May 30, 1943 in the coastal city of Oran, Algeria. There he attended the School of Beaux-Arts and later moved to the United States with a stopover via Paris, where he finished his studies in New York. His contemporary works with a PopArt character are bright and energetic. They are filled with a refreshing view of things and are full of lively spirit. Many works reflect the artist's exuberant, cheerful outlook on life.

Early on, Sariano participated in numerous group exhibitions at universities, museums, and galleries in the United States and Europe. The attention he received continues to this day, due to his unique prints and exceptional gouache painting. Watercolors and mixtures of different printing processes, such as etching and aquatint, are among his specialties. The motifs of his works take up cartoon characters developed by himself. Often these figures come together in bright rich colors to form a graphic composition. Flat groups of figures form a shape like a pattern and radiate an enormous attraction through their contrasting, bright colors. They tell us of youthful vitality.
